NEW DIGITAL MANUFACTURING ARCHITECTURE AT SIJ METAL RAVNE

Press release

Ravne na Koroškem, 29 June 2022 – SIJ Metal Ravne has just invested more than three million euros in a new IT system that will bring greater integration of manufacturing and business processes, as well as optimisation, even higher quality standards, and more efficient customer support.

The SIJ Group continuously invests in the best available technologies in order to ensure greater efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and better working conditions. At the same time, we are optimising and strengthening the integration of manufacturing and business processes by digitalising our manufacturing. Together with our partner PSI Metals, SIJ Metal Ravne has implemented a new IT system, namely the MetRis platform. The core IT architecture consists of Oracle EBS and PSI Metals, which – each in its own segment – are considered world-leading solutions. Both solutions were further adapted to the needs of SIJ Metal Ravne.

With this project, SIJ Metal Ravne has acquired a fully integrated digital manufacturing architecture: from the customer management system to the resource management system, including a new production management system which features a technology management system for the steel plant. But this is not all there is to the digitalisation of the SIJ Group’s manufacturing. On the contrary, we have further proof that our strategy to upgrade the digitalisation of manufacturing is the right and only approach to manufacturing in the future," said Vladimir Arshinov, the Head of IT at SIJ Group.

One of the key advantages of the new system is a greater integration of manufacturing processes, as it provides even more data for planning and optimising the manufacturing processes. It enables a higher degree of automation in order processing and even higher quality control standards throughout the process. The system was co-developed using our in-house knowledge, which opens up further possibilities for internal development and ensures control over optimisation, opening the door to further digitalisation and transition to Industry 4.0.

Jernej Močnik, the Managing Director of SIJ Metal Ravne, claims, “The main advantage is the stability of the entire process. This IT solution is a standard in the steel industry and we are trying to optimise our processes with its implementation. It is also essential that we will be able to manage the new IT system ourselves since a team of our employees played a part in co-developing the system. Having this knowledge in our hands is certainly the greatest added value.”

Our project partner, the renowned German-based company PSI Metals, fully understood our needs and worked with us to create the best possible solution. “The project was continuously driven by a highly motivated SIJ team which had the clear mission to take over the ownership of the PSImetals solution. Its success was built on professional project management on both sides and top-management support that allowed us to overcome certain difficulties. I am very proud of the maturity of our product, which allows the customer to further maintain and enhance the solution according to their needs,” said Myriam Mensing, the Director of the Division TAP of PSI Metals, describing the collaboration.

The SIJ Group expects the new solution to improve key business indicators, such as order fulfilment performance, production cycle, and inventory levels, enabling SIJ Metal Ravne, the second largest steelworks company in the Group, to enter new markets.
