Defence industry
Protection steel for defence, security and critical infrastructure. Defence organisations face increasing demands for higher protection levels, improved mobility and reliable supply chains. SIJ supports defence and protection applications with PROTAC high-performance protection steels, developed for vehicles, protective structures, containers and critical infrastructure where resistance to penetration and impact is essential. PROTAC combines high hardness, strength and toughness with good weldability, supporting efficient fabrication and assembly of protective structures.
PROTAC protection steel delivers an optimal combination of strength, hardness and impact toughness, making it suitable for vehicles and structures that require exceptional penetration resistance and shock absorption. The steel maintains high performance even at low operating temperatures while offering good weldability and fabrication characteristics.
Why PROTAC?
High-strength and high-hardness
High resistance to penetration and impact
Good weldability and fabrication properties
Good balance between high strength, elongation and impact toughness even at low operating temperatures
European production and technical support
Typical applications
Armoured vehicles
Tactical and military vehicles
Protective containers
Critical infrastructure
Protective structures

Reliable European steel production
For defence and security applications, supply reliability and long-term availability are increasingly important factors in supplier selection. With production in Europe and a strong focus on quality, SIJ helps customers improve supply resilience while maintaining consistent quality and technical support.
Reach your sustainability targets
All SIJ Group steel is produced from recycled steel scrap in electric arc furnaces (EAF), without the use of iron ore. This results in a high recycled content and significantly lower CO₂ emissions compared to conventional blast furnace production routes.
By choosing SIJ steel, manufacturers can support their Scope 3 emissions reduction goals while maintaining the performance and quality.
Green² Steel
For customers with ambitious decarbonisation targets, Green² steel is produced using renewable electricity sources and delivers an additional 20–40% reduction in CO₂ emissions.
We are also developing an EPD library to provide verified sustainability data and support customer reporting requirements.
